Hot Cocoa Naturally with Essential Oils

Homemade hot cocoa is surprisingly easy to make. Flavor yours with a drop or two of your favorite internal use essential oil for a fun new cocoa flavor.

Ingredients
  

Spiced  

  • 4 cups whole milk, or milk of choice (oat, almond, soy) 
  • 2 tbsp cane sugar or sweetener of your choice 
  • 1/4 whole vanilla bean, scraped (or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract) 
  • 6 ounces dark chocolate 
  • 2 drops doTERRA essential oil:  Cassiaor Cinnmon Bark  
  • 1 drop doTERRA essential oil: Black or Pink Pepper 
  • 1/4 tbsp Ancho chile powder 
  • Pinch kosher salt 

Minted  

  • 4 cups whole milk, or milk of choice (oat, almond, soy) 
  • 2 tbsp cane sugar or sweetener of your choice 
  • 1/4 whole vanilla bean, scraped (or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract) 
  • 6 ounces dark chocolate 
  • 2 drops doTERRA essential oil:  Peppermint 
  • Pinchkosher salt 

Orange  

  • 4 cups whole milk, or milk of choice (oat, almond, soy) 
  • 2 tbsp cane sugar or sweetener of your choice 
  • 1/4 whole vanilla bean, scraped (or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract) 
  • 6 ounces dark chocolate 
  • 2 drops doTERRA essential oil:  Wild Orange 
  • 1 drop  doTERRA essential oil: Lemon 
  • Pinchkosher salt 

Instructions
 

  •  To a medium saucepan,placed over low heat, pour in the milk, sugar, spicesor doTERRA essential oils. Heat to simmer and removefrom heat.  Steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove any wholespices you used and discard. 
  •  To melt the chocolate:Set a stainless steel or glass bowl into a saucepan filled withsimmering water in the bottom of the saucepan. Add the chocolate to thebowl and heat until the chocolate is melted. 
  •  Place the steepedmilk over medium low heat, and pour in the melted chocolate; whiskuntil completely incorporated and mixture is hot. 
  • ServeWarm and Garnish with Marshmallows or whole whipped cream
